Located in downtown Baltimore, the Phoenix Shot Tower was the tallest structure in the United States until 1846. Originally known as the Old Baltimore Shot Tower, its purpose was to make shots for rifles by dropping molten lead from the top of the tower down into water at the bottom. The Phoenix Shot Tower is now a National Historic Landmark, and a reminder of an older Baltimore.
